Free studio access for independent dance and theatre artists, run in partnership between Lewis Major Projects and Adelaide Ballet.
Access to affordable, suitable rehearsal space remains a persistent challenge for independent dance and theatre makers in South Australia. Government surveys and sector submissions have repeatedly identified the availability and affordability of spaces for development and rehearsal as a significant barrier. Independent artists are often forced to piece together ad-hoc rooms, living rooms, or short-term hires that are neither suitable for physical work nor sustainable.
FreeStudio is our practical response. Lewis Major Projects and Adelaide Ballet run the program together at Adelaide Ballet Space in Tusmore, making professional space available to independent artists who need it.
Free use of the studio for training, classes, workshops, creation, research, and rehearsal.
Independent dance and theatre artists and small companies based in South Australia, or with a clear connection to the state.
After 20 hours of free use, artists contribute a small amount of community time — a short workshop, open rehearsal, or skills share. Flexible and negotiated.
Sprung floor, tarkett, mirrors, barres, tumbling mats, pilates and yoga props, and a professional sound system. Adelaide Ballet Space, Tusmore.

Independent choreographers, dancers, theatre makers, and small companies who need space to develop new work, rehearse, or research. Priority is given to artists who do not have regular access to a suitable studio.
FreeStudio is a partnership between Lewis Major Projects and Adelaide Ballet to support the independent sector. Both companies are based at Adelaide Ballet Space in Tusmore, and run the program together. The two companies coordinate their own use of the space so that capacity can be offered to independent artists as part of the partnership’s activity.

Lewis Major Projects also has touring dance floors, dance Tarkett, a touring sound system, portable performance stages, costumes and other associated performance infrastructure (lights and atmospherics) for hire or use by independent artists and companies, by negotiation.
